Tententen: Mégalithisme (October 18th, 2014)

October's Tententen explores the monoliths, megaliths and henges of empires past and present through the contrasting electronic-industrial claustrophobia of LIF (solo work by Soh from Hysteric Picnic) and rural psychedelic drone of Under. Guest DJ is Sue from Rhyming Slang, while the Pink Lodge this month features art by Ada Flores-Vidal.

Fashion Crisis (March 2014)

First an apology. Unfortunately we aren't able to keep Fashion Crisis as a free event anymore, and so it's become necessary to set a first-drink fee of ¥1000 (¥500+1 drink).

Hysteric Picnic live in Shibuya (February 12th, 2014)

Hysteric Picnic will play a show at the "New Vibration" event at Shibuya Home on Wednesday February 12th with industrial duo group A. New Vibration organiser Tomo will DJ alongside Ian from Call And Response Records. group A are back to their official lineup after sickness saw violinist Sayaka Botanic replaced temporarily by sax player Ryota Komori of Miila and The Geeks for our show at Koenji Ten last month. Hysteric Picnic are playing as a full band for the second time so it should be heavy and loud.

Dancing After 1AM - Kyushu release tour January 2013

One of the notable features of the Dancing After 1AM compilation was that it was well supported by artists from Kyushu, with five bands in total from the westernmost of Japan's main islands contributing tracks. As a result, in January we're bringing the noise and doing a short release tour in Kyushu.

Work on Call And Response's new "Dancing After 1AM" compilation is ongoing, and parts of it are starting to come together. Excellent tracks from Pop Office, Anisakis, Puffyshoes and She Talks Silence have already been delivered with more currently being mixed.



また、熊本からcynicalsmileisyourfavorite、小林どろり、東京からはMirとスロウマリコ もコンピ参加決定！

New Call And Response compilation album this autumn!

Call And Response Recordsは9月下旬～10月上旬に日本のポストパンク/オルタナ/ニューウェーヴなバンドを集めた、コンピレーションCDをリリースします！

Call And Response Records are preparing a new compilation of Japanese postpunk, new wave and alternative music for late September/early October release.

CDタイトルは「Dancing After 1AM」。東京はもちろん国内における、現在のインディー/アンダーグラウンドシーンからのエキサイティングなサウンドが集結。

Entitled "Dancing After 1AM", it will feature some of the most exciting sounds of the current indie/underground scene from Tokyo and around Japan.

リリースパーティは2012年10月6日(土)に東高円寺二万電圧(Higashi-Koenji 20000V)で開催！She Talks Silence、Hysteric Picnic、Anisakis、Extrudersほか出演予定。さらにこれらのバンドに加え、Tacobonds、Pop Office、The Mornings、Otori、百蚊、New House他の新音源がコンピCDに収録されます。

A release party will be held at Higashi-Koenji 20000V (Den-Atsu) on October 6th, featuring She Talks Silence, Hysteric Picnic, Anisakis、Extruders and more. In addition to these bands, the album will also feature new recordings from Tacobonds, Pop Office, The Mornings, Otori, Hyacca, New House, and much more.

Fashion Crisis (May 2012)

I skipped mentioning the last Fashion Crisis due to not having a computer, but it was a pretty spectacular double feature with James taking charge of the Tokyo party at our regular venue of Koenji One and me hooking up with CAR stalwarts Miha and Zana in Ljubljana for our first European edition of the party. Disco madness ensued.

Anyway, we're back to normal this month with James and I both playing at One, backed up by friend of the event and minimal wave disco infiltrator Komlaski, as well as Soh from 80s-influenced psychedelic punk noise terrorists Hysteric Picnic. Appearing live will be Loser & Ribbons, the latest project of Her/Yamaco mastermind Noriko Yamada.

Telephone Club New Year Party (Sunday, January 22nd)

As I've already mentioned in my previous post, Dutch new wave duo Anatopia are currently in Japan and ready to kick off their tour at Shin-Koenji Club Liner tomorrow. Call And Response will hold an event of our own for Anatopia before they shoot off to Osaka and Kyushu next week.

Taking the form of a kind of mini-festival in the warehouse-like underground cavern that is Kichijoji GOK Sound, the event will also feature a raft of Tokyo postpunk, new wave, garage and indiepop bands, with DJ team Youth is Wasted playing tunes in between live performances.

There's no compulsory drink order and you're free to bring your own beer in with you, although we'll try to have cheap drinks available inside as well. It's going to be a blast!
